Colors of the Year Offer Bold Choices

The Colors of the Year in 2018 offer a variety for everyone. Whether you like spicing up your color palette with a rich, red color, such as Benjamin Moore’s Caliente, working with a rich blue/green hue such as Oceanside from Sherwin Williams or want more ethereal feel with a space-inspired Ultra Violet from Pantone, there is a range of bold colors to choose from.

Earlier this fall, Benjamin Moore announced its Color of the Year 2018 as Caliente Af-290, a vibrant, charismatic shade of red.

“Strong, radiant and full of energy, Caliente AF-290 is total confidence. It is pleasing, passionate and makes people feel special, like ‘red carpet treatment’,” said Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Director of Strategic Design Intelligence. “Whether used as one note or on four walls, the spirited personality of red turns heads signaling surprise and adventure. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes.”

The color leader also unveiled Color Trends 2018, a curated palette of 23 highly influential hues that enliven any room by adding depth and energy. The palette incorporates a full spectrum of reds, from hints of blush to deep oxbloods, while ensuring seamless pairings with a carefully selected range of whites, neutrals, and complementary bold hues.

Sherwin Williams 2018 Color of the Year

A collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green, a color that is both accessible and elusive, Oceanside SW 6496, is the Sherwin Williams 2018 Color of the Year. According to the Sherwin Williams, the shade is a complex, deep color that offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown. “Oceanside bridges together a harmonious balance of blues and greens that can be found in what’s old and new.”

The color blue evokes a multitude of moods and associations depending on hue, shade and application. Despite this variety, blues are universally perceived as intelligent, honest and interesting—making blue the most beloved color worldwide.

Oceanside’s multi-dimensional, marine-inspired look can create a welcoming statement as a lively color for a front door, according to Sherwin Williams. Its green-meets-blue tone can also boost creative thinking and clarity of thought in a home office, or invite meditation and introspection into a bedroom or reading nook.
